While litigation is ongoing, our team aims to keep readers up-to-date on current litigation and the impact of these cases on child safety online. Below, we discuss how a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge has ruled that one Roblox lawsuit will move forward.
A lawsuit filed by Los Angeles County against Roblox over alleged failures to protect children from online predators and sexual exploitation will move forward after a judge rejected the company’s effort to have the case dismissed.
According to the Office of the County Counsel, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Dean Kitchens ruled that federal law and First Amendment protections did not prevent the county from pursuing its claims against Roblox. The county alleges, among other things, that Roblox’s age-verification practices allowed adults to interact with children with limited safeguards or oversight.
Los Angeles County filed the lawsuit in February 2026, alleging that Roblox failed to implement adequate safeguards against predatory behavior, inappropriate content, grooming, and exploitation of minors. The county’s claims include alleged violations of California’s Unfair Competition Law and False Advertising Law.
The recent ruling does not establish that Roblox is liable for the allegations. Instead, it allows the county’s lawsuit to continue as the case moves through the legal process.
The Los Angeles County litigation comes amid broader scrutiny of online platforms and child safety. More than 180 related lawsuits are ongoing, with allegations involving abuse connected to interactions on Roblox and Discord. Roblox has also announced changes to its platform, including age-based accounts, additional parental controls, and age checks for certain chat functions.
For families who believe their child was harmed through online exploitation, the legal process can be complicated and deeply personal. These cases involve questions about the platform, communications and interactions that occurred online, the alleged perpetrator, and the circumstances surrounding the child’s experience.
Every case is different, and the legal issues can depend on the circumstances, applicable law, and evidence available. Families deserve a legal team who understands the complex and sensitive nature of these cases.
