HOUSTON, TX – A man was struck and killed on Sunday while selling flowers near a busy north Houston intersection.

According to a report by CBS Austin, the incident occurred at about 6 p.m. near Airline Drive and West Gulf Bank Road.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office say two vehicles collided, causing one to go over the median and hit the man who was standing there. The force of the impact threw the man onto the hood of a nearby vehicle.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died a short time later.

The suspect who hit the man attempted to flee on foot but was caught by an off-duty police officer working nearby. That individual is facing charges of failure to stop and render aid.
