HOUSTON, TX – A man was hospitalized in critical condition yesterday after being attacked by a pair of loose pitbulls early yesterday morning, Click2Houston reports.

Police were called to the 4300 block of Queens Retreat Drive at about 6:30 a.m. yesterday, where a 67-year-old man had been mauled as he was out for a walk.

The attack happened in front of a house occupied by a retired sheriff’s deputy, who ran out and shot one of the attacking dogs. A responding deputy shot the other animal after it attacked an animal control officer.

A medical helicopter was called to the scene and landed in the parking lot of a nearby church. The victim’s current condition remains unclear.

Both dogs are evidently still alive.
