HOUSTON, TX – A Houston Police officer fatally struck a pedestrian during a high-speed chase for a stolen vehicle that ended on Reed Road yesterday, according to information from KHOU.

The incident started after a woman reported that she had been robbed at gunpoint and had had her purse and truck stolen at 7510 Bellfort Avenue at around 5 p.m. Houston Police were then able to track the vehicle with the help of the woman’s dealership to the 9100 block of Scott Street.

The police attempted to pull over the suspects, who then reportedly fled the scene, and a pursuit began.

During the pursuit, one of the officers, who reportedly has been with the department for less than two years, lost control of their vehicle. They ran off the side of the road and collided with a man walking on the sidewalk.

The victim, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at 5:51 p.m.

Authorities later tracked down the stolen vehicle, which had five juvenile suspects inside. They fled the scene on foot, though police were able to apprehend three of them. Those three suspects are facing charges of aggravated assault.

The officers involved in the accident were placed on administrative leave. The fatal crash remains under investigation, and the case will likely be brought before a grand jury to determine if charges are warranted.
