KATY, TX – A Harris County Sheriff’s deputy was injured in a collision while heading to a call in Katy on Tuesday evening, Click2Houston reports. Initial investigations suggest the deputy may have been responsible for the crash.
Authorities say the deputy was traveling west on Franz Road with his vehicle’s lights and sirens activated when he drove through a red light at Mason Road and collided with a southbound Chevrolet van. Fortunately, the van’s driver was unhurt, and the deputy received only minor injuries.
A spokesperson with the HCSO said that while the deputy had a right to enter the intersection against the light if his lights and sirens were activated, he would have been required to first verify that it was safe to do so.
Further investigations into the incident are ongoing.
