HOUSTON, TX – Two people were killed and four others seriously injured in a wrong-way collision on I-45 Sunday morning, according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter.

A Honda Acura driven by Kourtney Yakiyah Hawkins, 26, was driving south in the northbound High Occupancy Vehicle lane of I-45 near Texas 242 and Rayford Rd when it collided with a Dodge pickup driven by Antonio Flores, 21.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the area around 1:45 a.m. after receiving reports of the accident. When they arrived at the scene, they pronounced Hawkins dead and found the dodge on fire with five occupants still inside.

Crews extinguished the fire only to have it reignite. The second fire was put out and firefighters requested multiple ambulances.

Nely Martinez was trapped inside the pickup and crews worked for about 20 minutes to free her. Once she was freed, crews tried to resuscitate her but failed. She was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The remaining victims, Antonio Flores, 21, Yatasi Moralas, 22, Osvaldo Amezquita, 21, and Charles Esaiais, 21, were all hospitalized in serious condition.
